Alan McCammon leads the Brownfields & Remediation Assurance Unit and is a member of the management team for the Land Remediation (Contaminated Sites) Section of British Columbia's Ministry of Environment. His primary responsibilities focus on the areas of brownfield redevelopment, compliance, and environmental assessments involving contaminated sites. Alan manages the Ministry of Environment's role in implementing the BC Brownfield Renewal Strategy focussing on the contaminated sites and brownfield regulatory framework and participating in a broad range of education and capacity building initiatives. He has extensive statutory decision making experience under B.C.'s Environmental Management Act and Contaminated Sites and Hazardous Waste regulations addressing high risk contaminated sites. Alan received his M.Sc. in Earth Sciences (Hydrogeology) from the University of Waterloo and is a registered professional geoscientist in the Province of British Columbia.
Environmental Scientist
Michael Choi is a senior environmental scientist at Hemmera with over 12 years experience in the environmental consulting industry in British Columbia and the Yukon. He has successfully completed numerous site investigations, remedial options evaluations, remedial design, risk assessments, and site remediation projects. Mr. Choi is also an accomplished trainer with years of field sampling expertise, and has personally trained clients and colleagues on various aspects of site investigation and remediation work.
Through his career, he has focussed on technically challenging projects from a stakeholder, regulatory, and contaminant perspective. He provides client and regulatory liaison by bringing together multi disciplinary teams, delivering innovative solutions, and addressing complex issues. Through his experience, Mr. Choi has come to appreciate the need to balance business with regulatory objectives and the protection of the environment.
One of Mr. Choi's notable projects include being involved in the remediation design, installation, and monitoring of one of the world's largest passive innovative groundwater treatment walls in Vancouver for heavy metal contamination. Through his consulting experience and his passion for sustainability, he has assisted with the brownfield redevelopment of many properties, helping to revitalize communities and improve the effective use of underutilized properties.
